Golf Driver Black Friday Let me begin by saying that I am far from a golf expert. I have been playing for probably twenty years or so with a make-shift set of golf clubs and can hold my own on a course. But to give you an example, I was so bad with my old five iron, that I think I threw that club further than I ever hit a ball with it. So when I recently got a set of Callaway X-22 irons and was so impressed by their weight distribution and ease of swing, I became an instant Callaway fan. So I decided that it was finally time to trade in the Dunlop 1-Wood for an actual driver. Yet, the three-hundred dollar asking price for the Diablo Octane when it first came out was a bit high for me. After using this club though, I can see how easily it would have been to justify spending that. Of course, getting it for $183 through Amazon was a HUGE bonus! As I have said, I am not the best golfer, but I could hit about 180-200 with my old Dunlop 1. I am easily hitting 230-250 with the Diablo Octane. Plus, the slice that I have slowly developed over the past couple of years is virtually non-existent now, with this club. Even if you only can get out to a course a couple of times a year, or a driving range every couple of months, you will definitely be pleased with this club.

Callaway Quad Net Black Friday I’ve played a little bit of golf on and off in the past but now that the kids are a bit older I’m trying to get back in and really make it an ongoing activity. I’ve been trying to practice my swing as much as possible but I’ve found it hard to get to the driving range on a consistent basis. I wanted to find a net I could hit into and this this is awesome.
First of all its huge so it catches everything I hit at it. My wife saw it in the backyard and was shocked how big it was. I started hitting foam balls into it because I was worried about balls getting away and breaking something. After I saw that everything was going into the net, I moved on to real golf balls. As much fun as foam/wiffle balls are there’s no substitute for a real golf ball. You can really tell when you hit it well or poorly when you make contact wiht the club.
Some peope talked about how loud the target was so I was hesitant to put it on but after awhile I tried it out. It didn’t make much noise at all! Its made of cloth and when you hit into it, the top is secured but the bottom is not so it looks like its catching the balls. Its really satisfying! I even like the sound it makes. The neighbor’s house is very close and they never heard me out there.
I love this net. On the first day I hit 300 golf balls into the net and the only down side was how sore I was the next day since I was really swinging hard in the back yard! I love having this net and highly recommend it.
I got the callaway hitting matt with it and the two paired together works very well!

Golf Travel Case Black Friday I have just ordered SKB 2SKB-4814W Deluxe ATA Golf Travel Case. It is different than photo here or on SKB web site (does not have the enlarged lower half). I have a stand bag, so I wanted a case like the SKB 2SKB-4812WS but wanted the TSA heavy locks on the deluxe model, so I ordered the 4814. The case delivered looks like the 4812 (but isn’t because it has the TSA locks). So I got exactly what I was really wanting, but not what I ordered. If you are ordering this case because you have a cart bag, it will not fit in this narrower case. The box was labeled 2SKB-4814W, but I really don’t know what I got because it is a hybrid of the 4812 and the 4814.

2-weeks later — Travel Update: After one trip involving several airports, the case is in great shape. When packing though, two points:

(1) I have the popular Callaway tilt-bottom stand bag, and I could only squeeze one golf shoe into the case. Next time I travel, I’ll have to use a smaller carry bag.

(2) I have the Callaway ft-i driver, with one inch extension. To fit in the case, I had to remove the driver cover and lay the club alongside the golf bag for it to fit lengthwise. In summary, if you order the case and don’t get the enlarged bottom half (as shown in the picture), you’re going to have trouble fitting a regular stand bag in the case, and you’ll have to pack your shoes with your clothes.

Garmin Golf GPS Black Friday I received the Garmin Approach G5 GPS golf unit from my husband as a gift several weeks ago. We had debated between this unit and the Upro but finally decided on the Garmin because it seemed more intuitive and quick to use on the golf course. It only has one real button used to turn it on or off (also used to lock/unlock the screen) and everything else is controlled via the touch screen.

I had checked and most of my local courses were already mapped. I’ve used it for at least 10 rounds and have found it to be very easy to use and the distances are quite accurate. It acquires satellites quickly. I like the ability to place the flag where it actually is. I also like to be able to measure my shots (although I always think I’m hitting a longer shot than I actually do but that’s not the unit’s fault).

I really enjoy keeping score on the Garmin – also a very intuitive process.

Most of the emphasis is around how easily it folds up. However from my perspective what’s nice is how solid it is when unfolded. The engineering is remarkable. There are many little features such as a completely enclosed compartment, hooks and latches, a velcro patch from which to hang a glove, an umbrella storage and handle, and so on.

It rolls very well and has large wide tires, which I prefer because they don’t leave a mark in soft ground.
